Airline Interviews, The Job Interview (21 Aug 2014)
Cathay Pacific announces the exciting news that they are now in a position to re-commence the Transition Training programme recruitment process. Given it has been in excess of two years since they offered this recruitment, some re-assessment will be required for those candidates who remain interested to join this Second Officer programme.
Re-assessment will involve a current employer reference check, an interview and a medical check in Hong Kong. Subject to satisfactory re-assessment, candidates will be offered a Second Officer Transition Training course.
Upon successful completion of the Transition Training course conducted at Parafield, Australia candidates will be offered the position of Second Officer, based in Hong Kong. If you are interested in this program, Cathay Pacific advised candidates to update their existing online application, this should be done as soon as possible as there is a cut off date of Nov 30th.
There are also new Minimum Requirements outlined below.
Cathay Pacific is one of the toughest interviews going, if you are serious about this offer then we strongly suggest contacting us for advice on how to prepare. Cathay Pacific Transition Training Flying Experience Requirements
Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (HKCAD) experience requirements for licence issue are specified in the HK CAD 54 and in a recently published AIC 12/12. Categories take account of the HKCAD CPL, ATPL and Instrument Rating minimums as well as Cathay Pacific requirements. Categories are for aeroplane experience only unless helicopter is specially stated.
It is a Cathay Pacific condition of employment that you are eligible for issue of a HK CPL licence on completion of your Transition Training and for conversion of your ICAO ATPL to a HK ATPL immediately on your promotion to First Officer.
It is very important that you assess your flight time accurately as per HKCAD requirements – please see the definitions on Page 2. Please note that Student Pilot in Command (SPIC) is not counted as PIC for the purposes of granting a Hong Kong pilot’s license. To be eligible for employment via the Transition Training program, you must meet the minimum requirements. Candidates are required to show logbook proof of minimum requirements at the final interview.
Many regulatory authorities have differing requirements for recording of flying hours; for example, PIC U/S may not be allowed for co-pilots in some countries. If you believe that you meet the requirements specified on Page 2 but your logbook does not show your experience in the Hong Kong categories, then the HKCAD may accept your logbook records together with a Statutory Declaration clearly explaining how you meet the HKCAD requirements. Please contact Flight Crew Recruitment if you need further information.
Cathay Pacific Transition Training Prerequisites
## Of the 1500 hours of flight time, up to 100 hours of flight time may have been completed as a pilot under instruction in a Full Flight Simulator (FFS) and Flight and Navigation Procedures Trainer (FNPT), of which not more than 25 hours shall have been acquired in an FNPT.
@ Holders of a helicopter pilot licence may be credited with flight time up to a maximum of 50% of the experience requirements.
Hi Sasha,
I am writing on behalf of my husband who applied for SO at CX with 3500+ hrs fast jet.
CX has just asked this last Dec to fill out a medical form and a HK atpl license form. We hope to get a respond and get this process going. We have 2 questions:
1. I read the article, thanks for the info. We are first of all looking for some interview help so please advise on that what your option and prices are.
2. In your article with new reqs, it looks like the 500 hours ME/IR are gone as a min req ? My husband has 400+ of those ( not many if you fly a 1 person jet LOL) but not 500.
We were wondering if the changed the 500 hours maybe ?
Please contact us,
Thanks

Dear Barbara and the Vermeer Family,
In regards to your first question; The Cathay Pacific interview process is quite detailed and certainly the hardest of any airline interview on the market, so it is imperative that you get help in order to be successful. As the interview process involves many steps we only recommend one on one interview coaching. This is $395 AUD and can be conducted in person (in our SYDNEY office) or via skype/phone anywhere in the world on a time zone that suits you.
In regards to your second question. The requirements change depending on whether you meet the Advanced Entry or Transition Training Cadet Scheme. The best way to find out is to check on their website and apply online for the position. Depending on your own personal circumstances and hours you may or may not meet some of these requirements and to be honest the only way to find out definitely is to apply.
I hope I have helped you and I apologize for the delayed response.
Kindest Regards,
Sasha
Thanks Sasha,
Your assistance in helping me prepare for the Cathay interview was invaluable.
Thanks again,
Chris
